  • Rudy's Rare Records

Rudy's Rare Records is a tiny, down-at-heel reggae and ska record shop in Birmingham. It is one of a dying breed, a place with real soul and stacked with piles of vinyl where the slogan is "If we don't have it - them don't mek it." The shop is owned by the charismatic, irrepressible Rudy Sharpe (Larrington Walker), who is reluctantly helped out by his long-suffering, neurotic-divorcee son Adam (Lenny Henry). Adam has moved home to help look after Rudy and run the shop following a heart attack scare. Having left behind his life in London, he finds himself trapped in the confines of his father's dusty old record shop, sharing the miniscule flat upstairs with his dad and his 17-year-old son Richie, who is a constant source of worry for Adam.

    Series 1
    01.
Take Me Home, Country Roads. When Rudy suffers a 'heart attack', his son Adam and grandson Richie come from London to look after him and his ageing reggae shop, Rudy's Rare Records. It's a bit of a culture shock for Bach-loving, cardigan-wearing divorcee Adam!
    02.
Roots Manoeuvres. Adam battles a university lecturer who has an eye for Alison. Meanwhile, Rudy contributes to a local 'oral history' exhibition...
    03.
Get Up, Stand Up. When local pub The White Horse is turned into a posh gastropub, Rudy's monthly DJing spot is cancelled. Whilst an enraged community grows via Facebook, Adam attempts to arrange a date at the refreshed venue with Alison. Meanwhile, Tasha gets engaged and Richie awaits exam results.
    04.
The Heart Of Saturday Night. The shop is broken into. Rudy doesn't have insurance, so it is up to Adam to venture into the rough estate to try and get the money back.

    Series 2
    01. Ill Communication. Rudy falls ill, giving Adam the chance to run the shop on his own and the chance to alphabetise the records.
    02. Oh Carolina. Rudy is outraged and confused in equal measure when Carolina, an attractive Italian woman who's been hanging around the shop, asks Adam out rather than him. Adam may have drawn the short straw though!
    03. Daddy Cool. When his son won't be seen in public with him, Adam is determined to prove that he's cool.
    04. Ride With Me. Adam takes his mortality a little too seriously, and finds himself confronted with a little too much Lycra.

    Series 3
    01. No Richie, No Cry. Richie is away, and Adam is missing him. But soon Adam discovers dance teacher Juanita, and so forgets all about his son.
    02. It's A Family Affair. While attempting a bit of spring cleaning, Adam discovers a bundle of long lost love letters addressed to his late Mum - and they're definitely not from his Dad.
    03. Redemption Song. Thanks to some dodgy paperwork, Adam and Rudy are faced with the prospect of losing the lease on their shop in less than a year. Inspired by Rudy's claim that Bob Marley once cited Rudy's Rare Records as having the best toilet facilities in Birmingham, they take extreme action.
    04. Rudy's Rare Record. With the discovery on one of the rarest records ever recorded on a dusty shelf at the back of the shop, Rudy, Adam and Richie each allow themselves to imagine what life would really be like if they were that rich. Turns out, their dreams are a bit premature...
    05. Lights Out. Rudy is determined to prove to his girlfriend Doreen that she's finally met her match.
    06. Girls And Boys. With Rudy about to tie the knot, it's party time - Adam style.
